What is AirAIM?
AirAIM is an web-based AOL Instant Messenger client. It is formatted with the idea of being as lightweight as possible to allow it to be used from as many web browsers as possible. A distinct feature of AirAIM versus other web-based clients is that your session is not tightly-coupled to the browsers; you can roam to other computers, phones, and etc. without being logged out AIM. The first evolution the client was unveiled to a limited user-base during February, 2003. As of 2008, the continuous user-base exceeds 10,000 users.

Who is Scott Dial?
He is the primary developer for this project.

What is this 'a.airaim.com', 'b.airaim.com', and etc. nonsense?
As of March, 2005, the AirAIM service was split between two servers to provide its users with a better experience. The two servers are located on two different networks and provide fail-over support. Furthermore, more recent changes in hosting have expanded the number of domains to many other letters located on a number of servers in multiple datacenters.

What is this 'Notify @' business?
'Notify @' is where you should provide your email address if you would like to be emailed when you receive messages. If you are using AirAIM from a mobile device, such as a phone, then you can have your phone be sent an email to let you read your messages. For instance, on the Sprint network you can provide [your phone number]@messaging.sprintpcs.com, but any email address will do. If you do not need to be notified of new messages, then you can simply leave it blank.

What do the little stars next to people's name mean?
A star means they are either idle or away. A red star means they are away. A green star means they are only idle.

Why do I not get notifications when I use certain email addresses?
Many large providers have very restrictive mail settings due to the massive amounts of spamming they receive. And as such, the servers running AirAIM.com are occasionally blocked. Known problems are: adephia.net, aim.com, aol.com, atcomcast.net, comcast.net, netscape.net, optoneline.net, yahoo.com.

Why do I sometimes come back and my session is not still running?
As you may have experienced with your own AIM clients, there are periodic problems with the internet or their servers that prevent a connection from lasting for extended periods of time. Our service will hold your connection for up to 3 days without you returning. Once the connection is broken though, our servers will only hold the session as 'stale' for a period of 24 hours.

Why does AirAIM not send "auto responses" when I have an away message up?
This is a problematic feature. A traditional client sends the auto-response when a new conversation/window is created. In other words, only once, unless you have closed the persons window, and then it will resend it. With respect to AirAIM, there's are no analogous states. It's never clear when a new conversation has started or the preceding one ended. Any implementation will potentially send an auto-response when unwarranted, so the benefits of auto-response are strongly out-weighed by the losses.

How do I add buddies with AirAIM?
At this time, AirAIM does not support modifying the buddy list.

How do I change the font (face, color, italics, bold, etc.)?
It is currently not possible to do so.

How do I edit my profile?
While this feature would be easy to add, AirAIM depends on the word-of-mouth provided by your profile to reach new users and expand the user base in order to make running AirAIM financially viable.

Why is AirAIM missing so many features?
The goal of AirAIM is to be a simple, light-weight client that can be used on virtually any web-capable device. There are always going to be things the real client can do better because it has a more rich interface. AirAIM is not a complete replacement for the official client (or its alternatives).

I need help, how do I get help?
You should search this forum in case your question has already been addressed, and if it has not been answered, please post. Please do not attempt to contact Scott directly or anyone related to Scott; this is rude, not helpful, and will get your concerns ignored.
